Acupuncture for digestion
Good digestion is a significant piece of our body’s overall health. Our digestive system breaks down the food we eat into nutrients that are used for growth, energy and cellular repair. An impairment in the digestive process can lead to a variety of conditions that result in malabsorption, pain, and feeling just ‘not right’.
When our sympathetic nervous system is in overdrive, our digestive function suffers. This is how acupuncture balances the gut-brain relationship: by calming an overactive nervous system. Classic herbal formulas often used for digestive issues, either alone or in conjunction with acupuncture treatments.

common myths about digestive health
-
A “normal” range varies. It may be anywhere from 3 bowel movements per day to 4 bowel movements per week. Take notice for what’s normal for you and seek treatment when it falls outside of this.
-
Ulcers are caused by a range of factors. Sometimes they may be caused by Heliobacter pylori bacteria, but they can also result from the overuse of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, also known as NSAIDS.
-
Smoking increases the risk of heartburn by weakening the lower esophageal sphincter. A weak sphincter causes acid and stomach contents to come back up the esophagus.
